All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil by anxious thoughts and forebodings… Learn how God’s word can help you overcome those anxious thoughts… “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are LIFE to those who find them, HEALING and HEALTH to all their flesh.” (4:20-22)
Why is it harder for someone who has been indoctrinated in one way of thinking to break free and accept something new? Old mindsets are like old wineskins that cannot contain new wine. The old is comfortable, safe and sound, even if it may be wrong. One brought up with these old teachings has a bias towards them. It takes a long time to change one’s mind when one has been indoctrinated, whether for good or bad. These old mindsets based in Old Testament law, could not receive the new teaching that Jesus was bringing.
This morning I read: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the land.” (Matt 5:5) Who are the meek? Those who are gentle and do not retaliate, because they know that God will vindicate for them. They do not try and protect or fight for their own rights. Their hearts are settled and confident in God.
There seems to be three types of people in this world. 1. Humans who want to control humans, 2. Humans who want to be controlled by humans, or, 3. The free spirits! The obnoxious ones who dare ask questions. But what was God’s design? Whom or what did God give mankind dominion over? Not other people, but HIS CREATION which he made for us.
Do others feel the same as I do, that the corruption in the world, in governments and bureaucracy, is the worst we’ve ever seen? Could it be because we have turned our back on God, and tried to play god ourselves? Could it be that God has turned his back on us and let us go our own way? Could it be that we are like the prodigal who left his father and spent his inheritance on wild living and ended up in pig wallow? Who then came to his senses and realise what he has lost? Could it be that our Father is patiently waiting for us to come to our senses and return to him?
(12) God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: (13) I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. (14) When I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud, (15) I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and the waters will no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. (16) The rainbow will be in the cloud. I will look at it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
(17) God said to Noah, “This is the token of the covenant which I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
