Overcoming Anxious Thoughts and Forebodings?
This past few days has found me digging deep into my digital past. Yes, I’m starting the new year by doing a back-up and clean-out of all the online clutter. With this I have found myself doing a lot of reading of old files. Here is one of the musings I found. (I hope it is helpful to someone.)..
Anxiety can be a real problem for some, and it becomes a way of thinking, and it will block God’s blessings. For instance, a friend of mine has suffered anxiety attacks as a result of Post Traumatic Stress. Most of his life has been one trauma after another… grief, persecution, financial loss, disappointments, etc.
One day, he was not well, having had another anxiety attack, and I shared with him something I’d remembered that Derek Prince said.
As a young man Derek suffered depression and also had a skin allergy. He was a new Christian and in the army, so was not able to get proper medical help, but he had discovered the Bible. In his devotions one day he read these verses in Proverbs:
“My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are LIFE to those who find them, HEALING and HEALTH to all their flesh.” (4:20-22)
He decided to take God at His word… and believed that his healing was in the Word of God. And he got well. Praise God.
Many of our illnesses are stress related, and we need to relax and spend time with God and read and meditate on His word. The enemy will try to fill our minds with anxious thoughts, but we must counteract them with assured thoughts.
Traumas of life can condition us to be anxious, even when we don’t need to be. Even when things start to go well, it is hard to believe that things can be better. We wonder what nasty is awaiting around the corner.
If this is the case for you, ask the Lord to renew your mind, and He does that through His Word. When you have an anxious thought, go to the word and counteract it with one of God’s promises.
Here are some simple steps to help you overcome:
I pray that this will be of help to you. Please write in the comments if it does.
