Shine On!!
We all know that Light is a pretty powerful thing!!
For instance, say you and your family have been out all day, and you don’t get home until dark. You didn’t plan to be away for so long, so you didn’t leave any lights on, not even outside. So you rummage around trying to find the key to open the door.
Eventually you succeed and open the door to pitch black. So now, what is the first thing you would do?? Of course you would turn on firstly, one light, and then another. The family charges inside, and if your kids are anything like ours, soon just about every light in the house is on. The place is shining like a lighthouse.
So is it not true, that the more lights you turn on, the less darkness there is. DUH!!! Pretty obvious, eh?
Well, shouldn’t that be the same for us believers in this dark world? The more believers who have their lamps burning brightly, the less darkness we would have. So then, why should the darkness, and the powers of darkness scare us?
We read of Jesus:
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.”
(John 1:4-5)
And as disciples of Jesus, He called us too to shine. Paul explains how …
“Do all things without complaining and arguing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, holding up the word of life.”
(Philippians 2:14-16)
And Jesus said:
“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:14-16)
“Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.”
(Galatians 6:9-10)
(YES!! We are also our brother’s keeper.)
So, may I encourage you, that as the Lord blesses you, that you be a blessing to others? As He said to Abraham: “I will bless you… and you shall be a blessing.”
May God bless you and may His love shine out of you to those around.
May the world be a better place because you are in it, shining for Jesus!!!
